"The foundational influence for a Christian Culture, for an Anglican culture, is the Bible. The word of God is to be the forming and reforming influence on the life of the Church. Scripture is to guide the rules and assumptions we make, thereby defining our culture as disciples of Christ."

What God has called us to do?
The mission of the church is clear, we are a sent people: 'Then Jesus came to them and said "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age". (Matthew 28:18-20)
This command is to take the gospel to every person throughout the world, to speak God's truth to all we encounter, to evangelise and to make disciples. It involves building and multiplying disciples where we are and wherever he will send us, so that they can, in turn, share the good news of Jesus Christ and train other disciples to do the same generation after generation. We do this out of our love and gratitude for what Christ has done for us.

What we Believe
At St Luke's Anglican Church, we believe what the church has always believed, as summed up in the historic creeds of the church.
The first creed was simply this: ‘Jesus is Lord’. That remains our primary and foundational belief. Over the years that original statement of faith was fleshed out and explained in the Apostles Creed, the Nicene Creed and the Athanasian Creed. We hold these to be the foundation and the boundaries of our faith.
In addition to the historic creeds of the church, the Anglican Church has 39 Articles of Religion that summarise the scriptures teaching on the nature of God, the Bible, the world, the church and the Christian life.

The Nicene Creed
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten not made,
of one being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary
and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge
the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son
is worshipped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Baptism
Baptism is a sign of God’s grace. It reminds us that God sent his one and only son Jesus to earth to live, die and rise again as a means of salvation for all people. Baptism is an outward expression of an inward commitment to a life long relationship with God and his son Jesus Christ. In baptism, the water symbolises being buried with Jesus in his death and being cleansed from our sin and guilt before God. The water also symbolises the spiritual renewal and cleansing that happen in the life of a Christian when they believe in Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour.
In the Anglican Church we baptise both adults and children in response to God’s all embracing love. When children are baptised it is expected that they will be raised in the Christian Community, educated about the Christian faith and encouraged in their prayer life and relationship with God. It is anticipated that Christian children will eventually make their own promises and commitment before God through the process of confirmation.

What is Confirmation?
Confirmation marks the point in the Christian journey at which you affirm for yourself the faith into which you have been baptised and your intention to live a life of committed discipleship. At confirmation you renew the promises made at baptism and take them on for yourself. This affirmation is confirmed through prayer and the laying on of hands by the Bishop. The church will promise to support and pray for you, and will also asks God to give you power through the Holy Spirit to enable you to live in the way of Jesus.
